Problem is most, for whom it was intended, wouldn't take it as such.

We've all felt that way towards younger people who are cry babies.

I've never understood the draw towards that though. It's as if people think that crying makes them "cool." But it doesn't, it never did, and it never will.

Those bumper stickers from the 80s were right. "Life's a bitch and then you die!" Oh, and also "Shit Happens." That's life though, and it's life for everyone. Somehow an entire generation of people have forgotten that. Life is largely what you make of it, unless you're in a North Korean prison camp, in which case, you're actually screwed. Even still some people have managed to escape. And they're not crying about it.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

In some sense it's that whining about things is just easier. Plus you can be rewarded for it too. I'd like to think that as a whole, humans are averse to work. Unless they're able to find a good enough reason to go through the hardship required.

I think that's part of it.

Of course, most people are naturally lazy to some extent.

The problem is when those lazy people expect to have things that non-lazy people do -- without putting in any effort. They feel that they are somehow "owed" something.

The logic doesn't follow.

Expand full comment

True. Nice analysis.

Now I'm trying to think of a reason why a lazy person would feel entitled to something that they haven't worked for.

They’re programming the young to fail. College especially is ruining them. I’m less interested in a good salutary reaming out than the real evil shits doing this and they know better.

There was a young employed by the company I work for now.

He was working in another state, and was hired as the on-site guy. He had a rather simple job that paid WELL because we're engineers. We also work rather autonomously, no micromanaging.

But this guy literally did NO WORK, other than show up. He left for a week, and never let the customer know about it, or any of us working on the project. He was just gone.

He was watching YouTube videos on his phone at meetings -- when executives were present.

Everyone had excuses for why he was doing these things. "He's young." "He is new to the position."

I didn't have an excuse for him. He was just a dumbass. Wouldn't he wonder how anything normally gets done? You can't just go to work -- and do nothing. I just can't fathom that someone is really that stupid.

He was fired shortly after that. But then another engineering group on the same job hired him! We were laughing because they didn't know it was the same guy.

School is ruining them.

The teachers “review the test” before the test (memorize answers) to boost teacher ratings.

Not to mention clearly no consequences.

The schools are ruin.

Jobs that pay; in 2020 I met a man at training who has his own business as HVAC. He like everyone else has trouble hiring people; he would start his apprentices at $50 an hour.

For you office only types;

Apprenticeships are like internships but with pay -

Then journeyman

Then license
